Tyler Knight The Walt Disney Company Introduction History/background. The Walt Disney Company is a very large company with a very rich history. The company began as a cartoon studio in 1923, started by Walt Disney, and it was called the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. In 1928, the first animated film to star Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie, debuted in New York City. The following year, the partnership between the two Disney brothers was replaced by four renamed Disney companies. In 1932, the first full-color cartoon, Flowers and Trees, was debuted by Disney. In 1937, Disney premiered their first feature-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
